Step Two // Choose the grade of your plank flooring
Character Grade:
Unlimited sound & cracked knots, dead knot holes up to 35mm, sapwood up to 30% of block width, natural colour variation in wood.
Rustic Grade:
Sound & cracked knots up to 35mm, dead knots up to 20mm, no sap or split ends, natural colour variation.
Prime Grade:
Pin knots & occasional small knots up to 15mm, no sap or split ends, natural colour variation in wood.
Step Three // Add optional textures to your plank flooring
Brushed
Brushing removes some of soft grain of the timber to create more texture on the board and accentuate the colour of the wood.
Hand-Eased Edge
The edges of blocks are sanded at a random angle to create an irregular joint between blocks, which works especially well with tumbling too.
Torn Face
In the planing process, a blunt blade is used to cause some grain tear in unique patches. No two blocks are the same with this process.
Tumbled
Using a custom-built machine, blocks are tumbled to damage the edges and faces of the boards, creating a distressed, worn texture.
Bandsawn
This texture creates regular bandsaw marks across the face of the flooring. These marks grab the stain and create an industrial, used look.
